Summer Term Madness

Why is it that schools feel as though they must pack everything in to the last term?

Between all three children, my calendar is full of events: ones that we need to attend, others where we need to remember to take in certain things or do something special for. As a parent, I find this the most difficult term. The children are exhausted and have had enough of school. The summer holiday is looming and whilst it couldn’t come soon enough for them, for us parents it’s case of feeling as though we are on borrowed time.

I have things I need to finish and get out of the way before they break up. That includes getting on with the editing of my manuscript. I’m also trying to plan ahead and organise cover for my work days during the six weeks. We are only away for the first week, visiting family, so being at home for five weeks, we need to have some things organised or we will all kill each other (please tell me I’m not the only one who feels like this?).

So after a summer concert, year six production, class assembly, three sports days, prize giving, disco, leaver’s party, non-uniform day, final school trips, transition day for secondary school and meet the teacher meetings, I think we will all need a well-earned break. My poor mother won’t know what’s hit her when we all descend on her for the first week of the holidays. I will probably be comatose by then.

How’s your summer term going?

Oh you’re not alone with this feeling! It is a really busy term and I do feel a bit ‘Argh!’ when I think about six weeks of having three kids at home and all the juggling (and lack of writing time) it entails. Hoping for some good weather this summer as that makes things a lot easier but so far it’s not looking promising up here! Thanks for linking to #WhatImWriting x

Totally feeling the pain here Nikki, too much to do not enough time to do it in… then no childcare at all over the summer hols. Not sue how much (if any!) writing is going to be done… best of luck with all your functions 🙂

Yes, am totally with you here and I just have the two children to organise, although we do have a birthday right at the end of term as well. I find we all collapse for a few days after the 21st of July!

Ah it does sound super hectic! I don’t even have school to worry about with Arthur yet & still we seem to have way more on at the moment… Good luck with getting everything done! Xx

I’m a teacher so I have a combination of ‘thank heavens that’s another year done, I’m beat’ and ‘Oh no, 6 weeks with no escape from the kid at home’. I didn’t think this through when planning my life….

Yes I hear you! School concert, sports day, school play, school fete, transition days and the rest. I think once those SATS are out of the way they cram everything else in afterwards. It’s a really busy time and tough to get your work done before the children finish in a month’s time (we only have a month! Argh!).

My eldest didn’t have to do SATS when she moved school, but because they finish on the 8th July, it’s the big countdown for her school. Then it’s phase two, with the final weeks of the other school where the two little ones go. Have you got one moving to secondary too?

Oh summer time! lol I will know all too well this next year when B is out of school for now I am used to them at home both with me. In the states we get three full months instead of just six weeks. Can you imagine that? My poor mother…with all of us each summer bless her.
