It’s Chriiisstmaaas

Christmas is a busy time for everybody – so much to sort and plan. Presents to buy, wrap and send, Christmas cards galore, parties and activities at school, it’s all happening at this time of year.

We unknowingly added to this mayhem by getting married on the 21st December: although 12 years ago, we only had ourselves to worry about and we never realised how hectic Christmas time could be. It wasn’t a conventional wedding and we had our reasons for doing it when we did. I’ve already written about it in a previous post called ‘Why my wedding day was not the best day of my life’, if you’d like to read it. We don’t normally get to celebrate it together because there is usually too much else going on. It doesn’t matter though, as the most important thing to celebrate is that we have made it this far, we have three beautiful kids and we are still strong.

Six years ago, we added another ‘thing’ to our list of to do’s – a baby. My youngest popped out early on the evening of Christmas Day 2008! We have struggled with how best to celebrate his birthday and it has taken him until this year to understand when it actually is. This has mainly been because we usually see one set of family on the weekend before Christmas and they shower him with birthday presents and well wishes. Then we try to mark the occasion on Christmas Day, by having birthday cake instead of Christmas pudding and dedicating the afternoon to him. On top of this, we see the other side of the family on Boxing Day where there is a mass of Christmas and birthday presents dished out then as well. It’s no surprise he has always been confused!

This year, my son had a five and a half party in June because he asked how come he had never had a party when all his friends were having one (guilt), but we will still mark the day itself as usual with the ‘traditional’ birthday cake pud (all gluten and dairy free of course, given his allergies – another thing to add to the list!). It will be interesting to see how he feels about the day this year, given that this is the first time he has ever looked forward to his birthday. He is so excited that he has been telling everyone we meet that his birthday is on Christmas day, even random strangers!

So as you can see there is a lot to think about on top of the usual stuff, but it’s all good stuff worth celebrating and looking forward to. I can’t wait.

Happy Anniversary, Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday.

Let the fun begin!

Firstly, I’ve just read your other post about your wedding, I’m certain that your dad was just as glad to be there as you were to have him there. It must have been so hard for you though. But, the wedding is just a day, it’s the marriage that makes the memories.
You certainly do have a busy week around Christmas! I hope it all goes wonderfully. Happy Anniversary to you today, Happy Birthday to your son when it comes and have a fabulous Christmas! Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt xx
